Dixie II defeated two British ship and an American challenger in the Harmsworth Trophy and is one of the last displacement style unlimited racer. Have it display beautifully as a FULLY ASSEMBLED MODEL. Master craftsmen handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch using historical photographs, drawings and original plan. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. They are 100% hand built individually using plank-on-frame construction method and are similar to the building of actual ships. Each model requires hundreds of hours to finish and must go through a demanding quality control process before leaving the workshop. The hull is fully made out of western red cedar and mahogany strips using plank on frame construction method. It is then beautifully finished with multiple varnish layers to give it that glossy look. The red leather seats are hand stitched meticulously. The brass fittings really define the model with its exhaust tips, intake, steering wheel, rudder, and reinforcements. This model rests on a wooden base. Itll make a perfect gift for home or office decorator, boat enthusiast, or passionate collector.
The "Dixie II" is the fastest motor boat in the world. Captain Pearce piloted "Dixie II" in numerous other races in eastern waters and at Hempstead Harbor made a worlds record of 36.04 miles an hour. Designed by Clinton Crane, for sports racer, Edward Schroeder, and built by Henry Nevins of City Island, NY she was powered by a Crane Whitman 8 cylinder engine of 220 horse power. Dixie II was one of the last displacement style unlimited racers to win the highly sought after Harmsworth Trophy by defeating two British and one American challenger.
